Mopar PCM & ECM replacement guide
A used Mopar engine computer is often the right replacement, but the correct service depends on what you need to preserve. This guide gives you the shortest route to the right donor and the right service.
Start with the Module P/N
Find the number labeled Module P/N or P/N on the original PCM or ECM. The donor must match every character except the final two letters. Those last two letters are a date-code suffix, so they may differ; everything before them must be the same.
A donor with matching connectors but a different base Module P/N can contain different hardware, emissions logic, engine or transmission control, or calibration support. The label number wins over the seller’s broad fitment list.
Pick the service by the result you need
VIN change
Best for many stock-calibration older Mopar replacements. We write your vehicle’s VIN into a donor with the matching Module P/N. A full clone is usually unnecessary unless there is data or a custom tune you need to preserve.
Full clone
Best when you want the supported identity, security, configuration, learned data, and existing calibration copied from the original into the matching donor.
Unlock
Add an unlock when a 2015+ cloned PCM needs to be writable with HP Tuners. For 2018+ vehicles, tuning through the vehicle also requires a Smart Access Cable.
Custom tune
Add a calibration when you want more than a faithful replacement. PCM Tuners can tune a supported NGC or GPEC module for common engine and vehicle changes.
2003+ NGC and GPEC coverage
PCM Tuners supports many 2003-and-newer Mopar gasoline modules in the NGC and Continental GPEC families. Common controller names include NGC1 through NGC4, GPEC2, GPEC2A, GPEC3, GPEC4, and GPEC4LM. The exact Module P/N and the condition of both modules determine whether a particular clone can be completed.
Representative vehicles include Ram 1500, Dakota, Durango, Charger, Challenger, Magnum, Journey, Dart, Grand Caravan, ProMaster City, Wrangler, Grand Cherokee, Commander, Cherokee, Compass, Liberty, Patriot, Renegade, Chrysler 200, 300, Sebring, Town & Country, and Pacifica.
Representative gasoline engines include 2.0L and 2.4L four-cylinders, 2.7L and 3.5L V6 engines, 3.6L Pentastar, 3.7L and 4.7L PowerTech, 3.3L and 3.8L minivan engines, and 5.7L, 6.1L, and 6.4L HEMI applications. This list helps identify the service; it is not a substitute for matching the Module P/N.
What happens after you order
- Place the order. No label-photo upload or pre-approval wait is required.
- Put the original and matching donor in the same box with your order number.
- PCM Tuners completes the selected clone, unlock, and tune work, checks bench communication, and returns both modules with tracking.
Typical shop turnaround is 1-3 business days after the modules arrive. A dead original can sometimes still be read directly; if the required data cannot be recovered, we contact you before changing the job.
