GM 2-Bar and 3-Bar MAP Sensors

Common factory GM sensors for boosted LS and other GM tuning applications. Buy by the exact part number whenever possible. Parts-store catalogs often list several different pressure sensors for the same vehicle.

Commonly used on boosted Gen III LS combinations. Technically, for a Cobalt, this is the barometric pressure sensor. Asking for a Cobalt MAP sensor may not get you the right sensor. This is also used in the Duramax, XLR-V, and STS-V

Connects to the intake manifold with a vacuum or boost hose. Useful when the intake does not accept a direct-mount sensor. This is also found in the Grand National, and 6.5 Detroit Diesel Trucks from the 80s and 90s.

Order by part number Old GM/Delphi remote-mount 3-bar sensor. Vehicle catalog listings are inconsistent, so ordering by part number is safer.
After Installation verify with scanner that key-on/engine-off MAP agrees with actual atmospheric pressure (anywhere from 100 kPa at lea level to mid 80s kPa at high elevation like Denver).

MAP Sensor Styles and Manifold Fitment

Many aftermarket sheet-metal LS intake manifolds and later Gen IV/TBSS-style cathedral-port manifolds are designed for the Gen IV or LS3-style bolt-in MAP sensor.

If you install one of these manifolds on a Gen III engine harness and PCM, you will normally need a connector adapter, or repinned connector. The Gen III PCM must also be calibrated for the Gen IV MAP sensor being used. Changing the connector does not correct the sensor scaling in the PCM.

Some people install a Gen III clip-in sensor in the larger opening and seal it with RTV. It may work, but it is ugly and should not be considered a good long-term solution. The proper bolt-in sensor and connector are much cleaner and less likely to leak or come loose.

Gen III truck-style GM MAP sensor

Gen III truck style: Clip-in sensor with the pressure port near the center. Common on Gen III truck and SUV intake manifolds.
Gen III car-style GM MAP sensor

Gen III car style: Clip-in sensor with an offset pressure port. Common on LS1, LS2 and LS6-style car manifolds.
Gen IV LS3-style bolt-in GM MAP sensor

Gen IV or LS3 style: Seals with an O-ring and is held in place by a bolt. This is the style commonly used by LS3, LSA and many aftermarket manifolds.
Gen IV MAP sensor to Gen III wiring harness adapter

Gen IV-to-Gen III adapter: Connects a Gen IV-style MAP sensor to a Gen III engine harness. The PCM calibration must still be changed to match the sensor.
Remote-mounted GM brick-style MAP sensor

Remote brick style: Connects to manifold pressure through a hose. Useful when the intake manifold does not have the correct sensor opening.
