The factory Vehicle Anti Theft System (VATS) can prevent the engine from starting when the security system cannot communicate with the PCM. Removing VATS inside the ECU calibration allows engine swaps and project vehicles to start and run normally.
GM VATS (Vehicle Anti Theft System) is a factory security feature that prevents the engine from starting unless the correct security signal is received from the vehicle's Body Control Module (BCM) or key system. When performing an LS/LT swap or installing an ECU in another vehicle, that security communication is often missing.
A VATS delete removes the security authorization requirement inside the PCM so the engine can start without the original vehicle security system.
